Google запустила собственный DNS-сервис – Google Public DNS, – позволяющий, как утверждают в компании, увеличить скорость загрузки веб-страниц и повысить безопасность веб-серфинга.

Созданная в 80-х годах система доменных имен (Domain Name System – DNS) предназначена для того, чтобы пользователь мог вводить в строке браузера буквенные имена, а не набор цифр, с помощью которых компьютеры в интернете общаются между собой. В описании своей новой услуги Google называет DNS узким горлышком веб-серфинга, увеличивающим время загрузки сайтов при причине медленного прохождения сигналов между персональным компьютером и различными типами DNS-серверов, отвечающих за работу системы. Это происходит вследствие слишком большого расстояния между пользователем и серверами, что усложняет маршрут сигналов; в результате перегрузки серверов некоторых провайдеров и так далее.
